O evento irá explorar desenvolvimentos recentes no direito internacional das águas, como uma ferramenta capaz de facilitar a cooperação internacional entre os estados ribeirinhos e seus esforços para enfrentar grandes desafios globais, como as mudanças climáticas e o aumento da demanda por recursos hídricos. Em particular, o evento irá considerar o papel e a importância de duas convenções globais que lidam com as águas compartidas, adotadas sob o auspício das Nações Unidas, e a sua relação com outros acordos multilaterais ambientais.

L’atelier passera en revue les derniers développements en matière de droit international de l’eau comme autant d’outils utiles à la coopération et pour faire face aux défis du changement climatique et de l’augmentation de la demande en eau. L’atelier se penchera particulièrement sur la contribution de deux conventions des Nations Unies (Convention des Nations Unies sur les cours d’eau internationaux et Convention sur l’eau de la CEE-ONU), sur leur pertinence et leur relation avec d’autres accords multilatéraux sur l’environnement.

The event will explore recent developments in international water law, as a tool for supporting transboundary water cooperation and states’ efforts to deal with major global challenges, such as rising water demands and climate change. In particular, the event will consider two UN global water conventions, their role and relevance, and their relationship with other multilateral environmental agreements.
