at the World Water Forum of Marseilles

At the 6th WWF in Marseilles in March 2012, INBO will call all the present representatives of basin organizations of river, lake or aquifer, from various parts of the world to join this Pact for better management of the national and transboundary basins for better facing the challenges of the planet.

Participate in the official sessions on basin management

From 13 to 16 March 2012 during the World Water Forum in Marseilles

Synthesis sessions on Friday 16 March - 08:30 – 13:00.

The International Forum Committee entrusted INBO, IOWater, UNESCO, UNECE, the European Commission’s DG Environment and OECD with the coordination of the Forum’s priority topics which aim to ”foster cooperation and peace”, to improve “Good Governance” and to present the European experience in basin management, in partnership with all other interested Organizations.

UNESCO and INBO coordinators of Priority for Action (PA) 1.5: ”Contribute to cooperation and peace” for better management of transboundary basins.

INBO was designated as Coordinator of “Target” 3 of the Condition for Success 1 “Good Governance”. This target relates to the development and implementation of National or Transboundary Basin Management Plans.

The European Commission and UNECE also coordinate two European sessions: one, Eu1, on the “Water convention” (Helsinki 1994) and the management of European transboundary basins, the other, Eu2, on the implementation of the European Water Framework Directive (WFD)

The 12 sessions related to Basin Management and Transboundary Cooperation organized at the 6th World Water Forum in Marseilles - 13, 14 and 15 March 2012.

Hanbook II

As you know, INBO intents to jointly publish with GWP, UNESCO, UNECE, AFD and GEF a new handbook on IWRM in transboundary river basins, following the first volume which was already published in 2009 at the Forum of Istanbul and which was an enormous world success.

This handbook will be presented at the 6th World Water Forum of Marseilles in March 2012, please send to us by return your case studies, your solutions and recommendations.
