The Paris Pact on water and adaptation to climate change

More than 360 professionals have already signed the pact worldwide!

As part of the “Lima-Paris Action Plan”, Peru, supported by France, organized on 2nd December 2015, the official day on "Water and Climate Change Adaptation" of the COP21 in Paris. This is the first time in the COP history that freshwater issues were formally taken into account. "The Paris Pact on water and adaptation to climate change in the basins of rivers, lakes and aquifers" was presented at the opening of this Day.

Global Alliances for Water and Climate - GAfWaC

The four "Alliances" for Basins (INBO - Paris Pact), Megacities, Desalinization and Business, established in 2015 at the COP21 in Paris, have created the “Global Alliances for Water and Climate” at the COP22 in Marrakech and jointly committed themselves to mobilizing their partners, identifying and disseminating good practices and supporting the development of new projects by field stakeholders involved in the adaptation and resilience of the water sector.

UNECE Water Convention

The Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE Water Convention) was adopted on 17 March 1992 in Helsinki: It is an international framework agreement on transboundary freshwater initially made for the European region. The Convention is now open for ratification by all countries of the World.

UNECE and INBO are jointly facilitating the platform of pilot basins for adaptation to climate change.

OECD Water Governance Initiative

The OECD Water Governance Initiative is an international multi-stakeholder network of about 100 representatives from the public, private and non-profit-making sectors gathering twice a year in a Public Policy Forum to share experiments on ongoing reforms, projects and best practices to support better governance in the water sector.

INBO and UNESCO are jointly facilitating a special Working Group (WG3) on Water governance in basins.
