What is the Flanders Environment Agency (VMM)?
The Flanders Environment Agency (VMM) is an agency of the Flemish government, in Belgium, that is committed to creating a livable and climate-proof environment in Flanders. It positions itself as a solution-oriented partner for a climate-resilient environment.
Through reliable data, policy advice, and field implementation, the agency ensures clean and sufficient water, healthy air, and effective adaptation of the environment to climate change. Its organization brings together expertise in water, air, and climate adaptation, supported by a service center that develops and shares knowledge with partners, and by strategic projects that allow rapid, solution-oriented responses to emerging challenges.
The Blue Deal, funded by the European Union, is a plan by the Flemish Government to better equip Flanders to deal with the effects of climate change. In July 2025, a new Blue Deal was launched that focuses on an integrated approach and cooperation at all levels.
