What is the Polish Institute of Meteorology and Water Management?

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management – National Research Institute (IMGW-PIB) has been providing meteorological and hydrological monitoring in Poland since 1919. Its mission is to inform public authorities, operational services and society about atmospheric and hydrological conditions, climate change and associated risks. Thanks to an extensive observation network covering the entire country, advanced forecasting systems and the expertise of nearly 1,400 specialists, the IMGW-PIB contributes to the protection of populations and economic activities and represents Poland in international organisations such as the WMO and EUMETSAT.

Who is Mariusz Adynkiewicz-Piragas?

Mariusz Adynkiewicz-Piragas is Head of the Regional Research Department at the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management in Poland (IMGW-PIB). He holds a PhD in agricultural sciences, specialising in environmental development, and has recognised expertise in hydromorphology, eco-engineering, water management and hydrology. For many years, he has been involved in scientific research projects and the implementation of operational actions in the fields of integrated water resource management and environmental protection.
