The year 2023 marked the 20th anniversary of the international Euro-INBO conferences for the implementation of the European Union’s water directives.
To mark the occasion, we had the pleasure of welcoming you from Monday 16 to Thursday 19 October to a symbolic location that saw the birth of the Euro-INBO network in 2003: the wonderful city of Valencia, Spain.
This international Euro-INBO 2023 conference was held at the invitation of our host, the Hydrographic Confederation of the Júcar River Basin, and in collaboration with:
- Spain’s Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO),
- the French Biodiversity Agency (OFB),
- Euro-INBO’s sister network: the Mediterranean Network of Basin Organisations (MENBO).
It brought together representatives from EU Member States, national and regional water directorates and administrations, river basin district authorities and basin organisations and, more broadly, stakeholders involved in basin management and the implementation of the Water Framework Directive (WFD), its ‘sister directives’ and other related policies, directives and regulations.
Simultaneous interpretation in English-Spanish-French was provided for all plenary sessions of the Euro-INBO conference.
As usual, the conference was open to delegates from EU candidate countries and countries from Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the Caucasus and Central Asia interested in EU policies, tools and methodologies for planning Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) at basin level.
A special feature of this year’s event was that, as the Mediterranean Network of Basin Organisations (MENBO) was also celebrating its 20th anniversary and the statutory sessions of its General Assembly, basin management stakeholders from both sides of the Mediterranean were also invited to take part in exchanges between professionals involved in the management of water resources in lakes, rivers and aquifers.
