On this occasion, INBO, represented by its Secretary General, Dr. Eric Tardieu, launched the One Water Vision Coalition.
In partnership with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), this ambitious initiative brings together over 20 research institutions, including space agencies and universities from Asia, Europe, Africa, and Australia. The coalition remains open to new research partners, creating a global platform to bridge data producers and users.
The coalition aims to harness innovative satellite technologies to provide concrete solutions for managing water resources, addressing water-related risks, early warning systems, and agriculture under water stress, planning. It will focus on real-time observation, reliable data, and implementation approaches, adapted to diverse climatic and geographic contexts.
Facilitated by a dedicated Secretariat, the coalition supports decision-making at all levels—transboundary, national, local, including at basin level. Pilot cases will engage local stakeholders and offer comparative analyses of solutions, making them accessible to end-users.
By fostering data sharing and inclusive water information systems, the One Water Vision Coalition not only advances technical innovation but also builds cooperation and trust among water users, paving the way for improved concerted water resource management.
Let’s keep in mind that data sharing and inclusive water information systems are not only useful technical tools, they are also key triggers for cooperation and trust building among water users and hence for the improvement of water resources management at different levels.
