During INBO’s 12th World General Assembly, we asked a few questions to Mr Comfort MOLOSIWA, Executive Secretary of the Orange-Senqu River Commission, in Bordeaux (October 2024). He spoke about the role and organisation of ORASECOM, the various issues facing the Orange-Senqu basin, and current strategic projects.
What is ORASECOM, Orange-Senqu River Commission?
The Orange-Senqu River Commission (ORASECOM) works for the equitable and sustainable development of the river’s resources, in particular through a forum for consultation and coordination between the riparian states to strengthen regional solidarity and improve socio-economic cooperation in the region.
It is responsible for managing the resources of the Orange-Senqu transboundary river basin, shared by 4 countries: Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho and South Africa.
Who is Comfort MOLOSIWA?
In May 2024, Mr Molosiwa became the first citizen of Botswana to hold the position of Executive Secretary since the inauguration of ORASECOM. With an MSc in Hydrogeology from the University of London, a BSc in Geology and Geophysics from the University of Connecticut and a Post Graduate Diploma in Hydrogeology from University College London, he joins ORASECOM with over 40 years of water work in the public service, the private sector and international organisations.
