What is the Bouregeg – Chaouia Water Basin Agency?
The Bouregreg and Chaouia basin covers an area of 20,470 km², or almost 3% of Morocco’s land area.
The Bouregeg – Chaouia Water Basin Agency is responsible for the integrated management of water resources in the Bouregreg catchment area, the coastal wadi basin and the Chaouia Plain, in coordination and consultation with the various water users, and plays a key role in implementing water policy, ensuring the protection, management and preservation of water resources. In collaboration with local authorities and public institutions, it is also involved in actions such as flood prevention, infrastructure management, and contributes to research projects aimed at optimising the use of water resources.

Who is Omar CHAFKI?
As Director General of Meteorology, under the Ministry of Equipment and Water of the Kingdom of Morocco, Mr Chafki has been appointed a member of the Executive Council of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), from 2019 to 2023.
He became Director of the Bouregeg – Chaouia Water Basin Agency in 2022.
