Hosted by the International Water Resources Association (IWRA) and the Ministry of Equipment and Water of the Kingdom of Morocco, the event will take place in Marrakesh from December 1 to 5, 2025. Under the theme “Water in a Changing World: Innovation and Adaptation” this prestigious event will bring together global experts, policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders to explore transformative solutions for water management in the face of climate and environmental change.

The congress will serve as a dynamic forum to exchange knowledge, showcase cutting-edge research, and foster cooperation among governments, institutions, and industry leaders. With a focus on resilience, sustainability, and adaptation, discussions will center on strategies to tackle the world’s most pressing water challenges, such as climate-induced variability, transboundary water cooperation, and water security risks.

The 2025 World Water Congress will highlight several critical areas:

  • Resilience and Adaptation Strategies: Developing integrated water resource management (IWRM) approaches to mitigate the impact of floods, droughts, and long-term socio-environmental changes.
  • Transboundary Water Cooperation: Strengthening international collaboration through water diplomacy and cross-border partnerships to improve governance and equitable water distribution.
  • Aquatic Ecosystems and Biodiversity: Promoting sustainable conservation efforts and policies to restore and protect freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity.
  • Nature-Based Solutions (NBS): Scaling up ecosystem-based approaches, such as wetlands restoration, to enhance water availability, quality, and climate resilience.
  • Water Quality and Pollution Control: Advancing monitoring, prevention, and treatment of established pollutants and emerging contaminants to improve health and environmental outcomes.
  • Water Security and Risk Management: Addressing risks related to droughts, arid regions, climate change, and unconventional water resources, while integrating circular economy principles.
  • Innovation and Smart Water Solutions: Showcasing the role of AI, digital tools, desalination, wastewater reuse, and traditional knowledge in shaping the future of water governance.

The XIX World Water Congress will provide a unique opportunity for international institutions, researchers, NGOs, and businesses to build partnerships and co-develop solutions to enhance water sustainability and resilience. Special sessions and side events will allow participants to engage in multidisciplinary discussions and contribute to global water governance advancements.

As the world faces increasing water-related challenges, this congress will play a pivotal role in shaping policies and innovative strategies for a more sustainable and water-secure future.
