The Peer-to-Peer (P2P) project, funded by the European Union, is the first programme under the ‘Twin Basin Initiative’ led by the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO), with the support of the African Network of Basin Organisations (ANBO). Its objective is to strengthen integrated and sustainable water resources management (IWRM) by promoting cooperation and the sharing of experiences to develop the capacities of basin organisations.
The Peer-to-Peer (P2P) programme is structured around two complementary components: peer-to-peer exchanges between basin organisations and capacity-building through a didactic curriculum.
As part of this curriculum, three online sessions were held on 14 and 18 September and 9 October 2026, focusing on the first part of the thematic module dedicated to water data, information systems and applications.
The sessions aimed to strengthen participants’ knowledge and capacities in water data management, from data collection and monitoring to quality control, sharing and integration within information systems. Contributions from basin organisations and technical experts explored a range of approaches and practical experiences, highlighting the importance of reliable data and effective cooperation between institutions.
The discussions covered the conditions required for sustainable water resource monitoring, the principles of shared data management and metadata, quality control procedures, common data standards and interoperability. Participants also explored practical tools and approaches for managing the data lifecycle, from its production and collection to its dissemination and use in decision-making.
Interactive exchanges provided an opportunity to share experiences and address common challenges, including data accessibility, institutional coordination, confidentiality and the technical requirements for developing open and interoperable water information systems.
The speakers’ presentations are available by clicking on their names below.
The second part of the module, scheduled for the week of 9 November 2026, will focus on data valorisation and decision-support tools.
