What is the Nile Basin Initiative?
The issue of sustainable management of water resources is crucial in the Nile Basin, given the large number of countries that have to share it. Added to this is the unequal distribution of water resources and demographic pressure between countries, combined with the challenges of climate change.
This is why the Nile Basin Initiative aims to ensure sustainable socio-economic development through the equitable use of the shared water resources of the Nile Basin and the benefits that flow from them.
