On 22 October 2025, the second selection committee meeting for the P2P – Peer to Peer support for basin organisations project, jointly implemented by the International Network of Basin Organisations (INBO) and the African Network of Basin Organisations (ANBO).

This meeting, attended by the members of the selection committee, enabled the validation of 23 pairings between the candidate organisations for the programme. These partnerships bring together basin organisations from Africa, Latin America, Europe and Asia, with the aim of strengthening cooperation and sharing experiences around Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).

Towards the implementation of peer partnerships

The next stage of the project will consist of formalising the partnership agreements and defining the programmes of activities between peers. These programmes will detail the concrete cooperation actions planned from early 2026, including:

  • face-to-face workshops to promote the exchange of experiences and the development of skills;
  • thematic webinars designed to share management practices and innovative tools between basin organisations;
  • field activities and technical support focused on the priorities of each pair or trio of organisations;

These exchanges will help to strengthen the institutional and technical capacities of basin organisations in key areas of IWRM such as governance, planning, data management and resilience to climate change.

A dynamic of international cooperation

The committee also analysed the diversity of pairings, which illustrates the richness of the exchanges initiated within the framework of the project:

  • duos and trios of cooperation, depending on identified needs and complementarities (approximately 40% duos and 60% trios);
  • intracontinental partnerships, promoting regional cooperation, and intercontinental partnerships, to stimulate the exchange of experiences on a larger scale (77% intercontinental pairings and 23% intracontinental pairings);
  • a balanced distribution between different types of organisations (basin authorities, national water agencies, transboundary coordination structures, etc.).

A programme supported by the European Union

The P2P – Peer to Peer support for basin organisations project receives financial support from the European Union as part of its actions for international cooperation on water and the environment.

By facilitating peer-to-peer exchanges, this programme contributes directly to improving integrated water resource management and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG 6: Ensure access to water and sanitation for all and ensure sustainable water resource management.
