In an interview at INBO’s World General Assembly in October 2024, Razaki SANOUSSI, Deputy Executive Director and Head of Operations of the Mono Basin Authority (ABM), shared valuable insights on the challenges and achievements of this organisation responsible for the integrated management of water resources in the Mono Basin, shared between Togo and Benin.
What is the Mono Basin Authority?
The Mono Basin Authority (ABM) was created in 2014, in West Africa for the Mono River basin shared by Benin and Togo, but became fully operational in October 2019 with the establishment of its executive management. The establishment process of the Mono Basin Authority has been led by the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) with the various assistance of partners including West Africa.
Its mission is to promote sustainable water use, coordinate development projects, and enhance cooperation between the two countries to ensure environmental protection and socio-economic benefits for the basin’s communities.

Who is Razaki SANOUSSI?
Dr. Razaki Sanoussi is the Deputy Executive Director and Chief of Operations at the ABM. He holds a Doctorate in Environmental Health from Bircham International University. In his role at the ABM, Dr. Sanoussi is responsible for overseeing operations and contributing to the integrated management of water resources within the Mono River Basin.
